Wiley O. Blevins, Jr.
Wiley Blevins is a life long Delawarean who entered the active Army in July 1986. He served in Darmstadt, Germany and Ft. Sill, OK while on active duty. After completion of his active duty tour in July 1990, he entered the Delaware National Guard as a sergeant, before attending the Delaware Military Academy’s Officer Candidate School in August 1994, where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
After completing his tour in the Army he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History Education from the University of Delaware in 1994. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta international Honor Society in History.
Wiley taught U.S. History as well as many Social Studies courses for Valley Forge Military Academy located in Wayne Pennsylvania, James H. Groves Adult High School (Newark Campus), and Christiana Academy. While working for J.H. Groves High School he served on the Social Studies curriculum and standards committee. In 1997 he became the Education Coordinator for the Historical Society of Delaware, where he was able to share his love of Delaware history with many students and museum goers. He has served as the secretary of the Delaware Military Heritage and Education Foundation since 1999 and is currently on the board for the Delaware Humanities Forum. He has also volunteered on the Wilmington Memorial Day parade committee from 2000-2005.
In 2000 he wrote, Dear Old High: The Story of Wilmington High School. Wiley and his wife Carol were both 1986 graduates of Wilmington High. He is currently serving as a Lieutenant Colonel full time in the Delaware Army National Guard. He, Carol and their daughter Isabelle reside in Wilmington, Delaware.
